The History of the Estate

The family’s winemaking spirit emerged in 1862 when Eugène Missol, Mr Lépine’s “grandfather’s grandfather”, planted vines on the southern slopes of the village of Allan.
This passion has since been passed down from father to son and the estate has grown. Initially exported in barrels under the Côtes du Rhône appellation, the wines now benefit from the Grignan-les-Adhémar appellation.
More modern technological solutions have replaced the old oak casks and the 1,500-hectolitre vat (destroyed in 1996, where today stands the beautiful chapel dedicated to Notre-Dame des Vignes).
Since 1980, Marc, Marie Lépine † and their children and grandchildren – direct descendants – have worked tirelessly and rigorously to express Château Bizard’s calling as a wine-growing estate.
Château Bizard: an exceptional place in a unique setting.
More than just a magnificent setting, Bizard is above all an estate shaped by passion and hard work. The unique nature of our wines is a testament to our expertise and the foundation of our reputation. The loyalty of our discerning and faithful customers is the greatest recognition of this.
Château Bizard continues to develop its potential from the heart of the Drôme Provençale. Built in the 18th century and a silent witness to successive generations, it has undergone a meticulous renovation, respectful of its history and focused on the future. Ancient stones, original roof structures and lofty spaces have been carefully restored, while modern and technological touches emphasise the wine-growing aspect of the place without betraying its soul.
More than an architectural renaissance, this restoration is also a revival of the terroir. Closely linked to the history of the château, the vineyard continues to produce wines typical of its appellation, rooted in tradition and aged with the utmost care.
