History of the Château Bizard Winery

The history of the Château Bizard vineyard dates back to 1862, when Eugène Missol—Mr. Lépine’s “great-great-grandfather”—planted his first vines on the southern slopes of the village of Allan, in the heart of the Drôme Provençale.

For more than a century and a half, this passion for vineyards and wine has been passed down from generation to generation. The family-run winery has gradually expanded, evolving from producing wines exported in barrels under the Côtes du Rhône appellation to the vintages now renowned in Grignan-les-Adhémar.

Over time, the estate has successfully evolved by incorporating modern winemaking techniques, replacing the old oak casks and historic large vats, while preserving the authenticity of its expertise. The old 1,500-hectoliter vat, demolished in 1996, has now been replaced by a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Vines, a powerful symbol of the link between tradition and renewal.

Since 1980, Marc and Marie Lépine †, along with their children and grandchildren, have carried on this winemaking tradition with dedication and generosity. Their commitment has helped establish Château Bizard as one of the Rhône Valley’s most iconic estates.

Château Bizard: An exceptional winery in Drôme Provençale

Château Bizard is much more than just a winery: it is a place of life and tradition, where every wine tells a story. The uniqueness of these wines, crafted from grape varieties typical of the Rhône Valley, reflects the terroir, the climate, and the work of the people behind them.

Located in a picturesque setting, surrounded by vineyards, rolling hills, and Mediterranean influences, the estate enjoys ideal conditions for producing wines of character, renowned for their balance, finesse, and aromatic intensity.

A restored heritage that blends tradition and modernity

At the heart of the estate, the 18th-century château embodies the spirit of the place. Carefully and fully renovated, it retains its original features—old stonework, timber frames, and grand spaces—while incorporating modern facilities designed for production and hospitality.

This restoration goes beyond architecture; it also supports the revitalization of the vineyard. Remaining deeply rooted in its terroir, Château Bizard continues to produce authentic AOC Grignan-les-Adhémar wines, combining tradition, innovation, and respect for the environment.
